WAPSO/CITY 2012 Negotiations Communication - January 20, 2012January 2012The WAPSO bargaining team is comprised of the following representatives: Bill Comstock (Staff, Labour Relations Specialist, Lead Negotiator), Andy Weremy (President, Water & Waste, ex-officio), Alex Regiec (1st Vice-President, Transit), Michael Robinson (2nd Vice-President, Planning, Property & Development), Gary Swanson (Community Services) and Dan Diachun (Assessment & Taxation). A bargaining survey was sent to the membership on October 13, 2011. The WAPSO bargaining team studied the survey results, identified key issues and defined micro and macro demands. At information meetings held on November 23 & 24, 2011, member participation was welcomed and discussion encouraged on key issues. The team appreciated the input of many members. Membership support is vital to success at the bargaining table. In preparation for the bargaining sessions with the City of Winnipeg scheduled for various dates over a two-week period, commencing on November 29th, the six person WAPSO bargaining team reviewed member's comments and developed a proposal and general approach for the negotiation sessions. The first bargaining session began on November 29th with introductions and an exchange of proposals. On November 30th the second bargaining session continued with productive discussions on non-monetary issues. The next session on December 7th continued to focus on discussion over language issues in the Contract. A presentation by team members regarding the issue of over-time was made to the employer. The City indicated that they would not be able to meet until late January because they would not have a mandate to present. The next meetings have been scheduled for January 24 & 25, 2012.
